Vellum LA x StandardVision Present Artist Showcase: Algorithmic Abstractions by Lisa Orth

In collaboration with StandardVision, Vellum LA has curated a site-specific artist showcase of selected works from generative artist Lisa Orth on view across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles through March 31st.

A creative polymath, Lisa began her artistic path in Seattle as a graphic designer and art director. In the late 80's, she was working for such luminary cultural institutions as COCA (the Center on Contemporary Art), local music magazine The Rocket, and Sub Pop Records as their first official Art Director. It was at Sub Pop that she designed Nirvana’s first records and their now iconic logo. She co-founded a design agency, where she got her first introduction to coding, and served as its creative director until leaving the design field to focus on tattooing. Her unique linework tattoo style, reminiscent of woodcuts and engravings, has garnered her awards, international acclaim, and a bevy of eager clients.

While leveraging her traditional art and design background into the new digital art space, her abstract generative work explores the intersection of art and technology, utilizing themes of colliding textures, movement and color. Since entering the digital art and NFT space, Lisa’s been focused on creating with processing and p5.js, a JavaScript library created to make coding accessible for artists and designers. Her artwork has inspired a strong collector base, with fans acquiring her art across varied platforms and ecosystems.

Catch artworks by Lisa Orth on view at Melrose & Spaulding, Kurve LA, 3rd Street Crossing, and 888 N Vermont, through March 31st, and learn more about the artist on her website.
