Vellum LA x StandardVision Present Artist Showcase: Otherworldly Digital Botanicals from Artist Daria AntypenkoApr 12
In collaboration with Standard Vision, Vellum LA has curated a site-specific artist showcase of selected works from 3D artist Daria Antypenko’s Inner Sense series on view across a number of StandardVision’s large-scale exterior displays throughout Los Angeles through April 30th.
An independent 3D artist from Ukraine, Antypenko employs 3D animation to explore various organic abstractions found in nature. Antypenko's most recent work examines the intersection of digital art and floristry; her digital flowers are not just a replication of what exists in the physical world, but instead are surreal and fantastical creations that highlight her unique artistic skill and technical expertise.
Leveraging CG and 3D animation techniques, Antypenko studies the structure and details of real flowers and then—using software and digital tools—she begins to create a virtual 3D model of the flower. The beauty of Antypenko’s CG flowers lies in her ability to replicate the intricate details of real-life flowers with a level of precision that is impossible to achieve with traditional mediums. With CG techniques, Antypenko manipulates every aspect of the flower, from the color and shape of the petals to the way they sway in the wind. One of the most striking aspects of Antypenko's work is her ability to create new hybrid flowers that do not exist in the natural world. By taking elements from various plant life and combining them, she creates uniquely breathtaking floral creations which draw the viewer in with a sense of otherworldliness and mystery.
By taking the aesthetic elements and textural qualities of flowers in the physical realm and transforming them into something entirely new and captivating, Antypenko opens up a whole new world of possibilities, exploring otherworldly structures that could never exist in reality.
Catch Daria Antypenko’s surreal digital flowers on view at Melrose & Spaulding, Kurve LA, 3rd Street Crossing, and 888 N Vermont, through April 30th, and learn more about the artist on her Instagram.
