Vellum LA Presents Nancy Baker Cahill’s Slipstream series at Infinity Festival: November 2 - 4
Vellum LA is thrilled to be participating at this year’s Infinity Festival, happening next week from November 2nd - November 4th. Now in its exciting fourth year, The multi-day annual event held in Los Angeles, brings together Hollywood’s finest storytelling talent with the innovative creators of cutting-edge technology.
Vellum LA is proud to showcase the work of new media artist Nancy Baker Cahill at the festival’s Art & Tech gallery. Baker Cahill uses analog and digital mediums to create immersive drawings that explore power, selfhood, and embodied consciousness, while encouraging viewers to observe hyperobjects through visceral intuition.
Nancy Baker Cahill’s “Slipstream” series is a powerful collection of artworks that draw on the concepts of the literary genre, Slipstream Fiction, inviting viewers to question reality while sparking critical discourse surrounding invented truths. The artist’s process involves mutating graphite paper to form sculptures that are 3D scanned and animated with CG software, resulting in visually stimulating artworks consisting of surreal landscapes that gesture towards the organic, as simulated fictions of botanical forms.
Baker Cahill is a TED speaker, an artist scholar in the Berggruen Institute’s Transformations of the Human Fellowship, the Art and Creative Technologies Advisor for the XRSI Safety Initiative, a member of the Guild of Future Architects, and Founder and Artistic Director of 4th Wall, a free Augmented Reality (AR) art platform exploring resistance and inclusive creative expression.
The festival’s Art & Tech gallery will be open to attendees on November 3 and 4th, and will take place alongside exciting panel discussions that will dive into NFTs as well as the development and inner workings of the metaverse. Nancy Baker Cahill’s work will be displayed on state-of-the-art Luma Canvas screens provided by our technology partner, StandardVision.
