Vellum LA presented Maggie West's immersive installation Eternal Garden for one day at SVStudios.
Eternal Garden is a surreal digital landscape built from colorful time-lapse photography. Throughout the pandemic, West photographed flowers from her garden under a spectrum of colored lights, capturing their growth while altering the visual properties of each plant. The footage was combined into surreal floral landscapes that bloom and evolve before the viewer.
Her animation process extends beyond traditional time-lapse photography to create complex, surreal ecosystems inside an immersive video experience. The installation included sound design by Things You Say.
About Maggie West
Maggie West is known for vivid photographs and installations that use experimental lighting and bold color to capture genuine expression in artificial environments. All coloration is done in camera with lighting rather than in post-production.
