Hotel Blue was the gallery's first exhibition on Tezos. It opened with a one-night immersive presentation at SVStudios in Atwater Village on April 29, 2022, followed by the exhibition at Vellum LA and a panel discussion on May 11. A majority of proceeds supported people in Ukraine who lost their homes during Russia's invasion, through Nova Ukraine.
Hotel Blue explored home and community for the future “us”: the virtual beings of tomorrow. It featured eight women, non-binary, and queer artists from six countries whose work considers how the body gives material form to an idea that has no form or space elsewhere in society. As we become more immersed in and dependent on rapidly evolving technology, the boundary between human and machine grows harder to discern.
Post-human bodies are never at home. They live in common spaces online, and these spaces, often temporary and fleeting, resemble hotels more than homes. The proliferation of self-centered technology pushes us to put forward improved versions of ourselves, giving way to a multitude of individualized personas. But can this multitude live as a community? And if so, where would they live? What is home for virtual beings?
